Queen of Sheba orchid (Thelymitra variegata)
Rarely seen but keenly sought by wildflower lovers, the Queen of Sheba is a small orchid only found in Western Australia. Curled leaves on the ground precede the growth of a slender stem, but it's the bright spotted purple petals and fluorescent yellow centre that orchid hunters all want to see. Locations of known flowers are a tightly-held secret, with flowers blooming only on warm sunny days in August and September.
